I may be the only person in the world who knows this, but the feeling of October is looming in the air. Yes, I am aware it's only August...but if you go outside late at night you can smell a faint crispness and feel a slight chill in the air. You may laugh because we've been on a heat advisory for the past few days, but there's no denying that the fall is coming our way. I'm not sure when my love (or obsession) with Halloween began, but I truly enjoy this holiday more than any other part of the year.
Really, whats not to love though? Dressing up, candy, haunted houses, decorating...it's all so fun! I think it all started when I was but a child. Even though these memories may be a little thwarted, this is what I remember: Each year my brother and I would get to pick out a costume we wanted and my mom would make them for us. One year I had a very fabulous purple satin unicorn costume that is probably my best costume to date. Before Halloween, our house would be decorated with not-so-scary decorations and candy would be purchased. We would head out on Halloween night with friends and my Dad to get our loot around the neighborhood. When the night was over, Matt and I would sort through our candy treasure, trade what we didn't want and then eat until we couldn't eat any more. That night, our candy would be traded for cash, yes cash! Costumes, candy and cash! What more could you ever want as a kid. I think this is where it all started for me.
Now that I'm all grown up, I celebrate in a similar way. There's still candy, costumes and cash, but now I make the costumes, give away the candy, and all the cash gets spent on Halloween decorations for my haunted house. For the past two years I have decorated our house in the creepiest, most awesome way I can think of for the party of the year. This year will be no different. I've already started brainstorming the theme for this years home sweet haunted house party. This blog will document my adventures over the next two months while I attempt to build and create a haunted paradise.
